A view to a thrill

Dawn's early light bathes the atrium at aqua shard

While of course we hope that guests will visit aqua shard for fabulous food and the famous aqua ambience, we know that for many the view from Level 31 of The Shard is an important part of our appeal. But just like ‘the food’, ‘the view’ isn’t just one thing, it’s many, changing with the time of day and the season.

Join us for breakfast as the sun is rising out east on a typical clear day, and the restaurant is at first bathed in a soft light, then fills with bright daylight, serving as the perfect natural wake-up call. As the sun climbs in the sky towards lunchtime its beams can dazzle our diners so special light-sensitive blinds will descend to spare them from squinting at the breathtaking view across the Thames and beyond.

As the day progresses and the sun moves across and down, the atrium is flooded with a comfortable natural light that makes it the perfect location for our Afternoon Tea. Then as the daytime gives way to early evening, a rich egg-yolk orange hue covers the capital as far as the eye can see.

As night falls, excitement builds – the lights start to come on in the restaurant but are set to a subtle glow, and the resulting darkness can feel as if it will envelop everything. But then the reason for the darkness within becomes apparent – it’s to ensure that the view of London-by-night, every building’s lights twinkling colourfully and landmarks like the magnificent St Paul’s brightly floodlit, becomes the backdrop to the energy and enjoyment within the restaurant and bar.

Whatever time of day you choose to visit us, we know you’ll fall in love with the view as much as we hope you’ll fall for our food and drink, all making for an unforgettable experience.

What’s your favourite time of day to enjoy the view from aqua shard? And what do you like to eat or drink while doing so? Let us know in the Comments!
