Celebrating a year of good people from GoodPeople!

Apart of course from breakfast at aqua shard, there can be few nicer ways to start a bright Spring morning than celebrating the first birthday of GoodPeople Connect, a wonderful organisation helping unemployed Southwark residents into work. We are proud to have worked with GoodPeople Connect since the very beginning, two months before we opened, and to have recruited many of our team through them.

At a very well-attended breakfast reception held on one of the showroom floors of The Shard, GoodPeople CEO Richard Tyrie gave a talk explaining GoodPeople Connect’s mission – to work closely with local businesses and government to get 300 unemployed Southwark residents into work over the next three years. The audience was delighted to hear that one year in, they are already one-third of the way there, with 100 candidates placed!

After the speech it was announced that of the 100 candidates placed with local businesses, seven had been shortlisted for a ‘Candidate Of The Year’ award, nominated by the companies they had been placed with. We were delighted that two of our team, commis chef Tesfa Paris and receptionist Courtnie Takooree, made the final seven, and further that the overall winner was Monmon Liu, a waitress from our sister restaurant at The Shard, Hutong.

It was also great to learn that combined with Hutong, we have taken 30% of GoodPeople Connect’s candidates this year, the most for any business – although of course, our commitment does not end here and we look forward to working with Good People and their inspirational project director, Marylin Schlamkow, in the years ahead.

Thank you Marylin and everyone at GoodPeople Connect for the wonderful work that you do and the great candidates that you have found for us!
